Presentation 1

Presentation 1 review:

I really appreciated these presentations because we had more time to delve deeper into a select few artists and their work that we had not been able to during class.  Everyone brought more information about the artists they researched than I had previously known about them and I appreciated everyone’s presentation for that reason. It is hard for me to choose a “best” presentation because everyone has their own style and personality and all the photographers are very unique. One of the presentations I enjoyed most was Laura’s presentation on the life and work of Thomas Struth. She was a very animated speaker who smiled often. It was apparent to me that she had practiced her presentation and knew what she was going to say because she spoke smoothly. Her interest in the topic was apparent by her enthusiasm and that made me interested in the topic more too. Her voice was loud and clear and I appreciated that she stood during her presentation so I could see her face from where I was sitting behind the computers.  In her presentation when she showed some of Thomas Struth’s photos, Laura pointed out great observations and defended her statements that gave me new viewpoints on his work.  Finally, I really enjoyed how she talked about the photographer’s process and style development.

A presentation that did not captivate me as much was Kelsey’s presentation on Lorna Simpson.  I think she chose a great photographer and talked about some of her works, but I feel like she could have just expanded more and had more photos on her slide as opposed to going to the artist’s website.  The website had poor navigation, which was nothing Kelsey had control over, but because of that I think she should have put the images in her own presentation.  She talked about the photographer’s main concept well, but I wish she would have pointed out aspects of the photo to defend details of the concept.  All in all, I still learned from Kelsey’s presentation and she still gave important information, I just think she could have organized a bit more.

The artists I am interested in presenting from greatest to least:

1. Jennifer Garza-Cuen

2. Abelardo Morell

3. Zeke Berman
